You must have a physio ball to follow the Applied Posture Riding Pilates exercise program
I have designed an exercise program based on the Pilates concept. All sports people are now training in the gym. Horse riders need to keep up. Exercising targeted muscles on a physio ball will improve your riding. The Applied Posture Riding program is designed around the use of a big physio ball.
MUST HAVE for the Applied Posture Riding exercises. The big gym or physio balls are the ideal tool to train the riding muscles on. The size must be mid thigh height for best results. The balls simulate the rocking and rotation movements of the horse so when following the Applied Posture Riding program you can simulate many of the movement patterns required for riding and learn them before getting in the saddle. The balls are ideal to roll around and increase the flexibility of the lower back. They are also ideal to train the upright posture so weak in many horse riders. All the movement patterns taught in the Applied Posture Riding program are based around the ball.
Measure your leg to upper mid thigh height in centimeters. This is the size ball you will need to order. As a guide if you are 165cm tall most likely a 65cm is your size. When sitting on the ball your hips and knees must be at an angle greater than 90degrees. That is the ball should be higher than a kitchen chair or couch and be easy to wrap your legs around the sides. The sitting position needs to be similar to sitting in the saddle with your legs in a similar position to sitting in a dressage saddle with your stirrups up 2-3 holes
Order the closest to your measurement. The balls can be pumped up tighter to increase there size or left slightly lower. They are not exact sizings and can be adapted to the height your need.
